OneLife The HGC Diet

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone produced by the placenta of pregnant women. This hormone triggers a gland in your brain called the hypothalamus to metabolize stored fats to make them available as calories for the growing fetus. In the absence of pregnancy, HCG, in combination with a specific low-calorie diet, allows your body to “unlock” 1500-4000 calories a day of body fat to be used as an energy source. This explains why most people report very little hunger and a surplus of energy on the diet.

The HCG weight loss system has become more popular as hormones are now commonly used in all fields of medicine. Some examples of hormones that are routinely prescribed by physicians are testosterone, estrogen, and thyroid. HCG is similar. According to Dr. Simeon's 20 years of research, when used in proper dosages and accompanied by a low-calorie diet, it is a safe and more effective way to lose weight. Just like insulin helps your body use glucose, HCG helps your body use your own fat stores for energy.

Real Food Diet

How It Works

The Protocol for the HCG Diet is outlined in 3 phases, this example lasting 32 days, as shown below. The VLCD Phase (diet phase) may be adjusted from a minimum of 23 days to a maximum of 45 days per round.

Phase 1: Load Days

Duration: Days 1-2

This phase consists of the first 2 days of your HCG protocol. Begin taking HCG as directed. Eat as much fat-rich food as you want. Be cautious of sugar and carbohydrates. You may eat them, but the focus is high-fat foods. This may seem counterproductive, but it works two-fold. First, the fat overload sparks your metabolism to begin attacking fat, essentially jump-starting the diet. Second, it provides an immediate fat reserve that can be utilized while the HCG begins to tap into your abnormal fat stores. This is a time to eat, drink, and be merry without guilt.
Phase 2: Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD)

Duration: Days 3-30

After completion of the loading days, you’ll begin the VLCD phase. The amount of calories you can consume on the VLCD phase will be determined by your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). You are allowed to consume the greater of 1/3 of your BMR or 500 calories. Details are provided in your patient education manual.

The VLCD phase consists of a very small breakfast of fruit and coffee/tea. For lunch and dinner, 3.6–6 oz. of approved meat, vegetables and one piece of fruit and starch. Take HCG as directed.
Phase 3: Program Maintenance

Duration: Days 31-72

Phase 3 of the HCG Diet is the most important part of the diet. If the VLCD is done properly and to completion, you will lose weight.

Whether you keep it off is up to you and will be determined by how compliantly you follow the maintenance protocol.

During the maintenance phase, you can resume eating 100–125% of your BMR. The details of the maintenance phase are discussed in your patient education manual or with your Onelife Wellness Consultant.
